David is an attorney in McNees’ Intellectual Property Group, focusing his practice on patent matters. He has drafted and prosecuted patent applications in technologies, including computing relating to virtual and augmented reality systems, computer software/internet related technologies, semiconductors, wireless telecommunications, medical devices, power tools, battery related technologies, printing related devices, and various automotive technologies.

David has also prosecuted applications in various foreign jurisdictions, worked with inventors and in-house attorneys on original work applications; counseled technology transfer matters of IP rights between universities, businesses and/or governments; and performed infringement and validity studies.

Before joining McNees, David worked as a Patent Examiner for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), where he examined patent applications in the area of medical devices and surgery technologies, including stents, balloon catheters, cannulas, respirators, aspirators, endoscopes, artificial insemination, orthopedic instruments, and disposable absorbent articles. David’s experience at the USPTO has allowed him to leverage patent procurement by identifying what needs to occur (in a productive and cost-efficient manner) in order to obtain patents for his clients. David also has a background in mechanical engineering and supported the U.S. Navy for ship design prior to his legal career.
