Colin Butler is a construction attorney who assists owners, general contractors and subcontractors with all aspects of construction law, including public and private projects. He has prosecuted and defended a range of claims in arbitration proceedings, mediation, administrative proceedings and state and federal court, including:

  • Contract disputes: Scope of work disputes, change orders, delays, differing site conditions and liquidated damages
  • Payment disputes: Mechanics’ liens, bank charges, pay app certification, Prompt Payment Act and reduction of retainage
  • Labor and wage disputes: Construction Workplace Misclassification Act, Davis Bacon Act and PA Prevailing Wage
  • Procurement: pre-bid RFIs, addenda and Steel Products Procurement Act
  • Construction defects

Colin is a lifelong resident of Lancaster. Prior to joining McNees, Colin was a litigation associate at a Lancaster-based construction litigation boutique, where he drafted pleadings, subpoenas, motions, briefs and discovery requests and responses for small and mid-sized construction clients. He was also an associate attorney at another central Pennsylvania firm, where he focused on civil litigation matters for businesses and individuals.

While in law school, Colin worked on nine projects for small businesses in the greater Philadelphia area as part of Temple University James E. Beasley School of Law’s Business Law Clinic. He also clerked for Judge Richard A. Lewis in the Dauphin County Court of Common Pleas, and for Judge Christopher Hackman in the Lancaster County Court of Common Pleas.
