McNees Attorney Jim DeAngelo Receives Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year Award

HARRISBURG, PA (January 27, 2017) – McNees Wallace & Nurick attorney Jim DeAngelo received the Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year Award in recognition of his timeless commitment to serving individuals who cannot afford legal counsel.
The Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year Award was presented to DeAngelo at the Dauphin County Bar Association Annual Membership Meeting at the Hilton Harrisburg on January 25, 2017.
“Jim has been so instrumental in the Dauphin County Pro Bono Program and the broader MidPenn Legal Services efforts that he has always insisted that this award should be given to anyone other than himself,” McNees Chairman David M. Kleppinger said. “This year, he was overruled by DCBA and was honored to humbly receive this recognition.”
Pro bono work is a deep passion for DeAngelo. He has served as Chair of the Dauphin County Bar Association’s Public Service Committee since 1997. He is also a leader in three civil legal aid programs; Community Justice Project, MidPenn Legal Services, and Pennsylvania Legal Aid Network. DeAngelo has also written extensively about pro bono work in the Metropolitan Corporate Counsel (“Pro Bono is a Professional Obligation”) and an Op-Ed piece for the Harrisburg Patriot-News (“Equal Justice Means Equal Access to Justice for All”).
DeAngelo joined McNees as a business litigator in 1992 after a clerkship with the Pennsylvania Superior Court. He is the chair of the Litigation practice group as well as the Appellate and Post Trial, Automotive Dealership Law, Financial Services, and Food & Beverage practice groups.
DeAngelo handles litigation projects in state and federal court, administrative proceedings, arbitration, and mediation. As a business litigator, he represents clients in all forms of transactional disputes. He has represented and counseled clients on the defense and prosecution of claims related to business transactions, including claims involving corporate, partnership and other business entity control, asset purchase agreements, stock purchase agreements, commercial lending, commercial leases, and non-competition agreements.
As a member of the McNees Automotive Dealership practice, DeAngelo represents automobile dealers in franchise disputes including relocation, new point, and termination cases.
A 1988 magna cum laude graduate from Temple University, DeAngelo received his J.D. in 1991 from The Dickinson School of Law where he was a member of the Dickinson Law Review, Appellate Moot Court Board, and the Woolsack Honor Society.
The Dauphin County Bar Association also presented its President’s Distinguished Service Award to retired McNees attorney, David E. Lehman. The award was in recognition for Lehman’s career-long commitment to the Dauphin County Bar Association, and in particular, his service as a President of the Bar.
Lehman was the moving force behind the creation of the “Equal Professional Opportunity Committee” (EPOC) and the Capital Area Managing Partner 1L Diversity Initiative for the Dauphin County Bar Association.
