McNees Attorney James DeAngelo Honored with the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Jeffrey A. Ernico Award

HARRISBURG – James P. DeAngelo of McNees Wallace & Nurick LLC, was awarded Jeffrey A. Ernico Award for his pro bono work from the Pennsylvania Bar Association (PBA). DeAngelo received the award at the September 27 annual fall membership meeting of the Dauphin County Bar Association.
The Ernico Award celebrates the pro bono accomplishments of Harrisburg attorney Jeffrey A. Ernico and his long-standing commitment to equal justice and serving those who have nowhere else to turn. The Ernico Award is an occasional award of the PBA Legal Services to the Public Committee that is to be given to such individuals and groups as the committee, from time to time, determines have provided unique service that has resulted in significant improvement in the provision of legal services to the neediest among us.
Pro bono work is a deep passion for DeAngelo. He has served as Chair of the Dauphin County Bar Association’s Public Service Committee since 1997. He is also a leader in three civil legal aid programs; Community Justice Project, MidPenn Legal Services, and Pennsylvania Legal Aid Network. DeAngelo has also written extensively about pro bono work in the Metropolitan Corporate Counsel (“Pro Bono is a Professional Obligation”) and an Op-Ed piece for the Harrisburg Patriot-News (“Equal Justice Means Equal Access to Justice for All”).
In January, DeAngelo received the Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year Award from the Dauphin County Bar Association in recognition of his tireless commitment to serving individuals who cannot afford legal counsel.
“Jim inspires each of us with his relentless commitment and dedication to our Clients and our pro bono activities,” McNees Chairman David M. Kleppinger said. “He has been a long time champion of providing access to legal services for all and is a well-deserving recipient of this award and recognition.”
DeAngelo is the 11th recipient of the Ernico Award since its inception in 2006.
His award reads:
“A champion of justice for those in need, James P. DeAngelo has been dedicated to public service throughout his legal career. His outstanding community service through pro bono contributions works to balance the inequality for those without adequate access to justice.”
DeAngelo joined McNees as a business litigator in 1992 after a clerkship with the Pennsylvania Superior Court. He is the chair of the Litigation practice group. He is also a member of McNees’ Appellate and Post-Trial, Automotive Dealership Law, Financial Services, and Food & Beverage practice groups.
A 1988 magna cum laude graduate of Temple University, DeAngelo received his J.D. in 1991 from The Dickinson School of Law where he was a member of the Dickinson Law Review, Appellate Moot Court Board, and the Woolsack Honor Society.
