McNees Attorneys Helen L. Gemmill and Erik M. Hume are slated to speak at the Pennsylvania Bar Institute’s program on “Easements & Rights of Way: From Acquisition to Zoning” on July 25th. The program will be held in Mechanicsburg at the PBI Conference Center, 5080 Ritter Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
Hume, who is also the course planner for the program, will focus his remarks on the various types of easements, and he will share practical drafting tips and considerations. In his practice, Hume advises clients through all aspects of real estate transactions and development. He represents landowners and developers in the sale, acquisition, leasing, financing and development of commercial and residential real estate. His practice also includes the creation, development and administration of commercial and residential condominiums and planned communities.
Gemmill’s presentation will address litigation and enforcement of easement rights. Gemmill is McNees’ lead litigation attorney for real estate matters. She represents businesses and commercial property owners in real estate disputes involving municipal zoning and land development rights, title challenges (both surface and subsurface), and easement rights.
Hume also serves as Co-chair of McNees’ Pennsylvania Oil and Natural Gas Group. With the development of the Marcellus and Utica shales, Hume advises midstream operators in pipeline and transportation projects. He also works with landowners in the sale and leasing of mineral rights, and has lectured several times on oil and gas law.
Hume received his J.D from University of Pittsburgh School of Law and his undergraduate degree from Lehigh University.
Gemmill has represented clients in litigation matters for over 25 years. Prior to focusing her practice in real estate litigation, she litigated numerous types of business disputes, involving environmental, employment, tax, contract, business tort, real estate, and construction law.
Gemmill received her J.D from Washington University in St. Louis and her undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago.
