Attorneys from McNees Wallace & Nurick’s Privacy & Data Security Group will give a presentation entitled “Cyberattack Simulation: Lessons for Data Breach Response” at the Cyber Security for Small and Mid-Size Businesses Seminar in the Harrisburg University Auditorium on Thursday, October 27, 2016.
The symposium is presented by the Pennsylvania Governor’s Office of Homeland Security.
“All businesses face the tremendous risk of cyberattacks. This simulation will walk business leaders through the crucial 24 hours after a company receives the dreaded news that it has been hacked,” said McNees attorney Devin Chwastyk, who leads the firm’s data security practice. “Our audience will observe firsthand the best practices for responding when a data breach affects the personal information of a business’s employees or customers and also how to prepare in advance to be ‘compromise ready’ when such a compromise occurs.”
Chwastyk is the chairman of the McNees Privacy & Data Security Group. He also speaks and writes frequently about cybersecurity issues and the legal risks.
The Cyberattack Simulation additionally will include presentations by McNees attorneys Louis Dejoie, Brian Gregg, Tom Markey and Elaine Stanko, all members of the Privacy & Data Group. The group counsels the firm’s clients to develop data security policies and data breach response plans. When breaches occur, the group’s attorneys assist businesses in responding as a necessary to meet their legal obligations and avoid liability.
The McNees data security team will be presenting along with Bradford Willke, US Dept. of Homeland Security’s Cyber Security Advisor; ErikAvakian, CISO for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; and cyber-crime experts from the Pennsylvania State Police and the FBI. The presentation also includes a private sector cyber solutions representative from Information Network Associates (INA).
