Sarah J. McGowan practices in the Labor and Employment Law Practice Group at McNees. She assists employers with navigating state and federal employment laws and regulations and assists with counseling clients on a range of workplace claims and litigation, including Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) compliance, accommodating employees with disabilities, labor matters, employment discrimination and harassment concerns, occupational safety and health, wage and hour compliance, and unemployment compensation.

Prior to joining McNees, Sarah gained 10 years of experience in several public sector legal roles. Most recently, she served as a law clerk in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania and, before that, the Court of Common Pleas of York County, where she drafted judicial opinions, managed substantial caseloads, and prepared cases for conferences, hearings, and trials.

Sarah also previously served as university legal counsel for the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PSSHE), where she provided day-to-day counseling on various legal matters ranging from labor and employment issues to athletics, real estate, business transactions, student affairs, public record requests, and policy development and review.
