HARRISBURG, Pa. – (November 19, 2021) McNees Wallace & Nurick LLC Chairman Emeritus David Kleppinger was re-elected as vice chair of the Penn State University Board of Trustees at its annual meeting.
Kleppinger, Class of 1977, began his tenure on the board in January 2017 after being appointed by Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf. During that time, the board has undertaken diversity, equity and inclusion efforts — including developing diversity goals for the board’s membership and creating the Committee on Equity and Human Resources — and selected Penn State’s new president.
“David continues to model the servant leadership mentality that he cultivated while at McNees,” McNees Chairman Brian Jackson said. “We know that he will give the University his very best.”
From 2006 to 2018, Kleppinger led McNees as chairman. He practiced as a member of the Energy & Environmental and McNees Strategic Solutions Practice Groups, representing large commercial and industrial consumers of fixed utility services, including electricity, natural gas, water/wastewater and communications as well as providers of these services. Kleppinger led legislative and regulatory initiatives to restructure these industries for customer benefit and appeared before more than 15 state public utility commissions, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and numerous state and federal appellate courts.
Kleppinger has served his community on organization and non-profit boards, including the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry, Team Pennsylvania Foundation, the Foundation for Enhancing Communities and United Way of the Capital Region. He is on the board of directors of RETTEW, an employee-owned company providing civil engineering and surveying services and is a member of the American Bar Association and the Pennsylvania Bar Association.
In 2019, Kleppinger was recognized with a Central Penn Business Journal Icon Honor Award for his work as a business leader who left an indelible mark in his field and serving as a dedicated public servant whose integrity, vision and selfless services has lifted up the Central Pennsylvania community. His service to Penn State includes his membership with the Department of Political Science’s board of visitors since 2008, which he chaired from 2013-2015.
Kleppinger graduated from the university Phi Beta Kappa with the highest distinction in 1977, and he earned his J.D. from Temple University School of Law in 1980.
